Description
Crumb is a band like no other. In each song released, one is able to feel equally relaxed, yet waiting for the next sonic climax to come to the forefront. Their latest single 'Trophy' is no exception to these musical anomalies. 'Trophy' is a track essentially about nihilism. Not having expectations or goals is the standard for the narrator and this comes to light when the chorus picks up with the repeated phrase "That's just the way it goes," as if coming to the acceptance that regardless of all prior efforts towards obtaining happiness, they ultimately have no control over their circumstance. The reference of the conceptual trophy within the song refers to whatever the individual holds value to and makes them happy at any given moment. With this in mind, the narrator is conscious of the fact that all of these material possessions and positive circumstances can be taken away at a moment's notice. Instead of grieving with this loss, the narrator comes to the unadulterated acceptance that an individual has no real control over their lives, and happy instances and glimpses of peace are fleeting. From an instrumental perspective, this track is a slow swell of verses that lead into a vocally distorted chorus. Despite the ambiguity of the vocals due to the altered sounding overlay, this musical accompaniment pairs with the lyrics perfectly to describe the feelings, the singer expresses through their disheartened attitude with life in general. If you are looking for your next track to play at a mellow kickback, or to even just contemplate the fruits of your labor (as they relate to your place in the universe).. look no further than 'Trophy' by Crumb!:
