Bugmaker is a rock/electronic/experimental band from Phoenix Arizona, and as of February 7th they have officially released their first two singles; they are both fantastic.

The group’s first track, pink icicle, was released on January 10th of this year and is of an outstanding level of quality for a premiere release. With its unique use of syncopation, lush synth sounds, noisy guitars, and haunting vocals, the track is instantly intriguing. From beginning to end this song holds the attention of the listener by way of its dynamic, multi-layered, vortex-like arrangement and highly skilled instrumentation. The band members' chemistry is evident and makes for an original sound that has made this track one of my favorite pieces of music I’ve heard this year.

With the release of their second and most recent single, cold kneecaps, bugmaker has continued to fire on all cylinders. Regarding the production of this track, the band achieves an equal level of excellence as is evident in pink icicle, yet cold kneecaps still possesses an identity all its own. This song strikes a wonderful balance between being catchy while also being angular and unpredictable. The amount of subtlety and attention to detail in the composition and arrangement of this track is jaw-dropping. With every listen it seems to evolve and reveal new parts of itself to the listener. As is also the case with pink icicle, cold kneecaps demands multiple listens by virtue of its quality as a feat of music excellence.

Because of its uniqueness and combination of musical genres, the music of bugmaker is not easily described or categorized. To truly understand the greatness of this band you’ve just got to listen to them. The band has stated that they will be regularly releasing music as of 2025 and will be performing soon. I am eager to hear more from the group and will be jumping at the chance to see them perform. I highly recommend checking out their music and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do.
