Description:
Spud Cannon exudes retro while maintaining a fun and unique sound. I like their incorporation of vocals from the other members in the form of back vocals, exclamations or background chatter/shouts…it makes it seem that I’m hearing the band live–a quirkiness I enjoyed while listening to the tracks.
Vocalist Meg Matthews’ style reminds me a bit of Echosmith’s Sydney Sierota but has a bit more edge and funkiness. Overall, the band as a whole does a great job creating a balanced sound between the instruments and groovy vibes that complement the lyrics.
Sounds Like: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Forth Wanderers
Recommended Tracks:
2 Runaway Strays: a song I imagine would play at an 80’s prom
5 Funky Town: an excellent cover of the original Lipps Inc song
9 The Boogie Man: soft background vocals infused with strong guitar and drums
