The University of Arizona's Mens Basketball routed the Cal Golden Bears 91-65 last night in front of a sold out crowd at McKale Memorial Center.
Spearheaded by a 22 point double-double by Oumar Ballo the Wildcats were able to stay on top of Golden Bears with a double digit lead for the majority of the game and were able to coast to a win. K.J. Lewis also had a big night coming off the bench scoring 14 points in 16 minutes of play, while no one from Cal scored above 15.
The energy in McKale slowly built up as the crowd started to fill up the arena in anticipation of what everyone hoped would be a big night for the Cats in their second meeting of the season against Cal. Arizona got out to an early lead in the 1st half of play in front of a rocking crowd going on a 12-0 run to build a comfortable 29-11 lead before Cal ended it with points of their own. The Wildcats were able to cruise into half time up 20 with the score being 48-28. Cal was able to close the distance a bit but not enough to give anyone in attendance a doubt of who the winner would be that night with the smallest lead being 15 for Arizona. Fans started to leave with around 5 minutes to get an early head start on the trip back home with about less than half actually seeing the buzzer go off. The final score showing displaying 91-65 in favor of the home team.
Jaylon Tyson had a poor offensive night going 5/14 from the field and only having 10 points in 30 minutes of play. Keonte Kennedy also had a night he would like to forget going 3/13 with six points in the same amount of playing time. Arizona was able to score from just about anywhere on the floor as Cal could not come up with the answers which is what ultimately ended up sinking them.
Arizona looks ahead to Sunday when they will face off against the Stanford Cardinal in McKale center again looking for payback because of a New Years Eve loss to them.
