Description: These two new songs from Long Island indie pop band, Mr Twin Sister, are stellar and fantastic slices of disco-inspired pop. “Power of Two” is a groovy, smooth pop ballad strung along by a strong bassline and interesting keyboard section. Lead singer Andrea Estella’s vocals spin the song into airy and light directions without ever sounding out of breath or disconnected. Her range and amazing selection of vocal tones is simply astounding and it’s hard to believe that one woman can reach this many unique sounds. “Power of Two” is really built around Estella’s voice as she sings about the pure physical attraction with a dance partner. “I told you that I like your body/Don’t question everything” calls to mind the insecurity in meeting a new person and engaging in something as dancing/sex with them.
Definitely a great track, but second best to “Echo Arms”, a beautiful dream pop and spacey disco track. I definitely cannot understand any of the lyrics in this song other the eponymous “Echo arms around me” but that’s hardly necessary when the production is as clean and polished as this track. A keyboard waves and pulses underneath Estella’s dreamlike vocals as drums echo in a far off corner of the studio. I really don’t know how to describe it but it’s one of my favorite pop tracks out this year so far. Layering of vocals over each other creates such an alien sound, and it all comes together perfectly. Highly recommend this.
