Patricia Brennan - Maquishti Album Review

Album: Maquishti

Artist: Patricia Brennan

Genre: #Jazz

Label: Valley of Search

Non-Airable Tracks: N/A

Description: The influence of Brennan’s Mexican heritage is very evident in this album and instrumentals are simply beautiful. I enjoy listening to Maquishti while meditating or reading a book. I think the song “Point of No Return” is unique because she makes clicks and trills by scraping her tone bars with binder clips. The build up of this song is what makes it very enjoyable for me. “Magic Square” is yet another track that stands out because it is one of the most upbeat songs on the album but also gives me a very hypnotic, chill vibe. Additionally, I was in absolute awe of “Solar” and it’s a slower-paced track compared to the others. This song gives me very ‘other worldly’ vibes, very similar to "Dream of the Cherry Blossoms" by Keiko Abe.

Overall, I enjoyed Maquishti very much and if you are looking for some great instrumentals and melodious music, I absolutely recommend this album.

Sounds Like:

  1. Keiko Abe

  2. Andrew Thomas

  3. Mark Ford

Recommended Tracks:

  1. Magic Square

  2. Solar

  3. Point of No Return
