Description:
“The Cave” from Orphaned Land’s “Unsung Prophets and Dead Messiahs” was a pleasant surprise for me. This single is what historical folktales are made of. The folk metal song features dramatic choral parts, screaming, clean vocals, and violins. It is the perfect recipe for a song that makes you feel like you are the mighty Israeli Beowulf who is about to slay a dragon. The band’s Israeli background is pleasantly apparent in the song with the violin solos they employ throughout. The guitar solo makes the song feel more modern but doesn’t distract from the epic feeling that makes this song so fun to listen to. The only down side I would say there is to this song is that it is rather long, specifically eight minutes long. This song is similar to the Beowulf epic. It’s fun, epic, and very long.
Sounds Like: When Beowulf talks about his song the entire movie, this was the song he was talking about.
Recommended Tracks:
“The Cave” (****) – Oriental metal is epic and more people should listen to it!
