Description:

“Start the Healing” by Korn is an empowering tune that channels the same unique sound that most famously led the band to stand as one of the most significant precedents of the post-grunge, nu-metal movement. In this new single, Korn carries on its tradition of intersecting elements of both industrial metal and hip-hop, such as blending intense and energetic vocals with heavy riffs. However, Korn’s mournful, repressed, and angsty lyrical style, such as in songs like “Coming Undone” or “Freak On a Leash,” is somewhat evolved in this new piece. Listeners are rather drawn to “try to achieve a little break from the anger” and to actively push themselves to become liberated from the imprisoning nature of their pain. Furthermore, listeners are prompted to not forget their individual struggles but rather to push through them in order to find some semblance of amelioration. Overall, the single, “Start the Healing,” signifies the strength that can become augmented by one’s introspection, in terms of the changes that are prompted that are not necessarily neat, "attractive," or clean-cut.
