It was a dark and very cold Saturday night. I marched through the crowds of club hoppers in my 4-inch New Rocks while violently clenching my hands in my pockets in a desperate attempt to generate any sort of body heat. My frigidness was soothed by the cozy nook of Wooden Tooth Records.
This was my first time in this building. Most days, the building is a music store - selling vinyls, cassettes, and CDs - but tonight, it served as the venue to tonight’s hardcore show.
I came rather early so I preoccupied myself with Wooden Tooth's music selection. They had pretty much every kind of music you could think of from MF Doom to Title Fight. I was particularly intrigued by their small collection of books. I zoned into a book about Black alternatives (I wish I could remember the title). This location also had a bar. I got myself a 2-dollar coca cola and sat back waiting for the show to begin.
Not long after, four men emerged from behind a wall.
Got Bit came out to start the show.
Got Bit hails from Tucson so I was very surprised that I never heard of them up until today. Seeing them live was probably the best way to possibly get into them. Their vocals were deep and violent - the guitars screamed for the sweet release of death - the drums suffered major blunt force trauma. IT WAS ALL INSANE!!!
Their music was totally mosh worthy however, the band seemed to have an older audience. The majority of the audience was in their mid-thirties. If they were to mosh they would have had to call out from work the next day. So I was a little sad that I couldn't get the full experience but it was actually kind of refreshing not having to worry about getting impaled by someone's spiked wristbands at this show.
Unfortunately, I was unable to find their music on any streaming platforms and physical copies were not sold at the show. If you really want to experience the heart of Tucson hardcore, you have to see them live - which in my opinion - is the best way to see them!
Following their set was the headliner - Common Wounds
I was really excited for this set because I have been following the work from their latest album - All Night Blood (thank you Instagram algorithm). This show truly exceeded my expectations.
They opened with whining guitars and a menacing aura.
This show was soooo goooood! Spent the whole time rocking out! I may have rocked too hard though because my knees and neck hurt the next day. Perhaps the 30-something year olds and I have a lot more in common than I thought.
These guys are super punk rock and down to earth. Throughout the show they joked with members of the audience and really put their hearts out to the crowd. They were even kind enough to give em an impromptu interview at the end of their show!
Overall I give this show a 10/10!
Merch
It wouldn't be a complete review without merch!!!
For being a small band, they had an AMAZING selection! I bought a vinyl and a shirt. The shirt is super thick with a nice sweatshirt style collar.
Also, thanks to Common Wounds for signing my vinyl!!!
