Description: Genuinely the most beautiful animation I have ever seen in a film
I really hadn’t heard anything about this film until a few days before I went to see it at the Loft Cinema at the end of January. I read the description and saw the cover and I thought it seemed interesting and cute so I bought tickets for my boyfriend and I and we went in not really knowing what to expect, but with open minds.
Immediately when the movie started I was absolutely blown away by the beauty of it. Sometimes the cover art of a film can be a little misleading and it doesn’t always look exactly

like the movie, but the cover for Flow was just like the film: stunning (and adorable). Not only was I shocked by the film’s beauty, but I instantly fell in love with the main character who is a curious, little, black kitten. The movie follows this kitten on his adventures through a world that's flooding and he meets many new animal friends along the way.
One thing about this film that I found to be quite unique is the fact that there is not a single human character in the film and there is also not a single (english) word spoken. This being said, there is still so much emotion depicted by the characters whether it's through their actions to each other, or through the sounds they make. Despite all of the characters being different types of animals, both predators and prey to each other, they are able to move past these boundaries and find ways to support each other through times of peril.

One of the characters I loved the most is a lemur that the gang of animals picks up along their way. This funny guy is obsessed with anything shiny and he values all of his collected items probably more than the boat that is keeping all of them afloat in the flood. He’s constantly squawking at anyone who messes with his collectibles and if anything goes overboard, he pretty much loses his mind. There’s one scene that I remember so distinctly where all of the animals are doing something on land together, except for this lemur who can be seen in the background rolling around a big shiny object. I just thought that this character added a great amount of comic relief to a movie that can honestly get quite sad at times and he was a really fun addition to the animal gang.
All in all this movie is a beautiful depiction of how everyone can learn to support each other and prosper despite all odds being against them. I have to be honest and say that both my boyfriend and I shed a few tears because it’s so hard not to fall in love with these characters and feel everything they feel. This being said I give this movie overall a 5/5 stars just because it was such a unique film with beautiful animation, loveable characters, and an incredibly entertaining story.
