Description:
Faustina Masigat came from Oregon to release her first album this year named after herself. Here, she sings painful songs backed by relaxed, minimal music. Every song on the album features just Masigat and her guitar with accompaniment used sparingly (electric guitar, piano, banjo, etc). Stylistically, this is similar to Pink Moon by Nick Drake though with a far different emotion.
The most memorable song is “I Was His” which contains the closest melody this album has to a pop hook. For the most part, this album is the same throughout and nothing sticks well. Her songs are all good but there is nothing on this album that stands out; it is a quiet beauty but too gentle for its own good.
Final score: 6/10
