The Arizona Roots Music & Arts Festival, brought to you by the folks behind California Roots and Relentless Beats came to the Valley for the first time earlier this month! This reggae music and arts festival captivates its audience with peace, love, and good vibes. Held in the middle of the desert- Rawhide Western Town and Event Center 5700 W North Loop Rd, Chandler, AZ- you are able to disconnect with the world and get in touch with nature, music, and your roots.
For its first year, Roots featured live muralist creating the most vibrant and psychedelic paintings on walls of plywood. I was able to interview one of the artist, Kamal Mishmish. Mishmish explained that his piece was inspired by reggae music, “The shapes are about dancing, breathing, and moving psychedelic.” Not only were there colorful artist at this festival, but also colorful vendors. At Roots festival you can network with cannabis dispensaries, CBD manufacturers, and purchase various hemp and tie dye merchandise.

Along with the Rawhide Stage, Roots structured their very own dynamic main stage. This year they featured exceptional reggae and folk artist. Including, musical group Iya Terra, Black Bottom Lighters, Rebelution, Kill Babylon Coalition, and Stick Figure. I personally really enjoyed Kill Babylon Coalition. Zoe Collins, a Member of Kill Babylon Coalition, is on the bands keys, vocals, and melodica. She is one talented reggae triple threat.
