A Look Back at Glaive's Debut Album

Glaive released his debut album "i care so much that i don't care at all" back in July of this year and has been on tour ever since. This weekend on Saturday, October 7th, he had his second to last concert in the North American leg of his tour at the Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix. Glaive has been one of my favorite artists for a while now (I would sell my left lung for this dude) so I've been really sad that I couldn't make it to his concert this weekend. However, I thought why not take this as opportunity to turn my sadness into something positive and write an article about the album! So let's gooo :o

If you're not familiar, glaive is a hyperpop artist who gained traction in 2020. From making songs in his room, he eventually released 4 EPs (including one with fellow hyperpop sensation ericdoa) and now his debut album icsmtidcaa. If you're a fan of hyperpop, I HIGHLY recommend checking it out. Here's some info to get you started:

Album: i care so much that i don't care at all

Artist: glaive

Genre: #hyperpop

Label: Interscope Records

Non-Airable Tracks: All of them except "the prom" and "2005 barbie doll"

Description: When I first listened to this album, I remember not liking it because it wasn't the same, upbeat, HYPERpop era of glaive that I grew to know and love. However, I have realized that is exactly what makes this album so great. Glaive has grown so much as a person and a musician since his first EPs and this album is a direct reflection of that. He addresses important topics that any young person who is still trying to find themselves and navigate life can relate to, such as mental health struggles, sexuality, losing friends, and dealing with the responsibilities of being an adult. Although some of the tracks are slower, he still keeps the upbeat sound from his earlier work in tracks like "the car" and "im nothing thats all i am". Just when you think it can't get any better, he samples Timothée Chalamet's majestic voice from the Prodigal Son in the beginning and end of "as if". Listening to this album is a rollercoaster of emotions. It will make you laugh, cry, dance, smile, and stare at your ceiling recounting all the times when your life has gone wrong. So buckle your seatbelts and go give it a listen! Even if it takes a couple run-throughs, like it did for me, I promise you won't regret it.
