Description:
Friday, November 10, 2023, British singer and producer PinkPantheress released her long-awaited DEBUT album following the release of her EP in 2021. Thirteen tracks, four features, and I am genuinely struggling to find the right, coherent words to describe this album other than to say I saw God when I listened! And God is, in fact, a Y2K diva from England. Never thought I would say that... This album is just too good. As a fan of PinkPantheress since 2021, her musical evolution has been incredible to witness and enjoy. She is so hard-working and talented, as her songs have grown in both length and quality. This is DEFINITELY a no-skip album, and it might be for you as well! OBSESSED ââ
I wanted to write about the first single off of the album, "Mosquito," but I am so glad I waited for the drop of the album itself because PinkPantheress took my expectations for this album from the ceiling to the heavens. So many incredible, fun songs, all in the vein of her signature style, yet PinkPantheress is not afraid to take musical risks and play with different genres and sound effects. She's a total music rebel, unafraid to push boundaries. This is - in my opinion - the mark of a true artist.
The features on this album go fucking crazy!! From Rema to Central Cee to Ice Spice, PinkPantheress found the most perfect artists to compliment her signature sound in the best way, with neither outshining the other. Have been seeing some internet discourse pitting Ice Spice and PinkPantheress, but I wonder why we are making two talented artists "compete" in the first place?? Would PinkPantheress have included the second part of "Boy's a liar" -featuring Ice Spice - on the new album if there was any bad blood? Hell no. Use critical thinking skills, I beg! "Nice to meet you (feat. Central Cee)" is arguably the craziest and most English track of the album. With heavy Y2K and jungle influences, the song is so undeniably fun and catchy. Central Cee's flow and accent jive really well with PinkPantheress' angelic voice and delicate lyrics. They struck such a perfect balance; just do yourself a favor and watch the music video.

Speaking of catchy, give fun, fall earworm "True romance" a listen. On that track, PinkPantheress explores different sound effects in a very Olivia Rodrigo/Gwen Stefani way. No one is doing proper Y2K like PinkPantheress!! With enchanting organs in "Another life (feat. Rema)" and a gorgeous harp featured on the track "Ophelia," PinkPantheress absolutely hypnotizes listeners. PinkPantheress masterfully blends differing sounds and genres across the thirteen tracks while remaining true to her Y2K and 90s-influenced roots. Who would have thought to pair an organ with a guitar solo other than the musical genius herself? The organs give the track a theatrical quality like the Phantom of the Opera, almost. Speaking of fun sounds, PinkPantheress experiments mostly with sound effects in the song "Internet baby (interlude)." So fun, catchy, and evocative of that early 2000s sound.
â I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say this is a contender for one of the best albums of 2023. I have been so excited for the release of this album, and it definitely did NOT disappoint. So many solid bangers, this album is both quintessentially PinkPantheress, and objectively brilliant. "Feelings" for example, is one of my fav tracks off the album. Please give it a listen, as each track offers a different sound and energy -- all under the wonderful umbrella of PinkPantheress! My favorite song off of the album is easily "Capable of love" and it has a cool blend of hyperpop and grunge elements. Super slay! This album is truly a gift to fans of PinkPantheress!! â Feels like Christmas came early this year... â
